The Senator Sharafadeen Alli Campaign Organisation (SSACO) has called on elders across Oyo State to caution Governor Seyi Makinde and the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) governorship candidate, Hon. Bimbo Adekanmbi, following the alleged killing of an All Progressives Congress (APC) member in Ibadan.
The organisation alleged that the APC member, identified as Ridwan and popularly known as Paul Moor, was macheted to death by suspected APM supporters in Ward 6, Ibadan South-West Local Government Area, on Friday.
According to SSACO, the victim was allegedly attacked over his defection from the APM to the APC, a day before his 35th birthday.
In a statement issued by its Director of Media and Publicity, Bisi Oladele, the campaign organisation condemned the killing and other reported attacks on opposition figures in the state, describing them as unacceptable and a threat to peaceful political participation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
SSACO expressed concern over what it described as a growing pattern of political violence in Oyo State, urging political leaders to discourage their supporters from engaging in attacks against members of opposing parties.
The organisation also alleged that Senator Alli’s wife, Alhaja Tawakalit Alli, was attacked during a free medical outreach she organised the previous week. It further claimed that the APC candidate for Ibadan North-West/Ibadan South-West Federal Constituency, Hon. Folake Olunloyo-Oshinowo, was attacked during a campaign, while the campaign train of the APC candidate for Oyo South Senatorial District, Hon. Remi Oseni, was also targeted on the same day.
Similarly, the organisation alleged that the campaign team of Accord Party governorship candidate, Alhaji Oriyomi Hamzat, was attacked during a campaign at Molete, Ibadan.
Describing the incidents as anti-democratic, SSACO maintained that Nigerians had constitutional rights to freedom of association and expression, regardless of their political affiliations. It therefore urged Makinde and Adekanmbi to call their supporters to order and ensure that political differences did not result in further violence.
“Oyo State belongs to all citizens and residents, not just APM members,” the statement said, adding that political ambition should not come at the expense of human lives.
SSACO also called on the Oyo State Commissioner of Police and other security agencies to investigate the alleged killing, identify those responsible and ensure they were brought to justice. It stressed that residents deserved a peaceful campaign environment as political activities intensified ahead of the 2027 elections.
It further declared that Senator Alli would sustain his issue-based campaign and urged other political parties to embrace peaceful engagement rather than violence.
