The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the August 15 Osun State governorship election, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO), on Thursday unveiled a series of commitments aimed at addressing some of Iwo’s longstanding developmental challenges, including the protracted boundary dispute between the town and neighbouring Oyo State.
Speaking during a campaign visit to the palace of the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Adewale Akanbi, Oyebamiji described the boundary disagreement as an age-long issue that requires decisive government intervention, assuring residents that his administration would work with relevant authorities to secure a permanent resolution.
According to the APC standard-bearer, resolving the boundary dispute would not only bring lasting peace to affected communities but also create an enabling environment for economic growth, improved security and social development.
Beyond the boundary issue, Oyebamiji pledged to complete ongoing road projects across Iwo and rehabilitate critical access and link roads to ease transportation and improve connectivity within the town and adjoining communities.
He also promised to review compensation paid to owners of properties demolished during road construction, alleging that some of those affected were inadequately compensated.
He assured residents that his administration would ensure fairness by providing appropriate compensation in line with the value of affected properties.
The APC candidate accused the ruling Accord Party administration of neglecting Iwo despite its political and economic importance to Osun State, alleging that the town had only begun to receive increased political attention because of the forthcoming governorship election.
He, however, urged residents to vote for the APC on August 15, saying his administration would pursue inclusive development and ensure that every part of the state enjoys equitable distribution of infrastructure and government projects.
In his remarks, the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, said the APC candidate had used the visit to present his programmes and vision for the people of Iwoland.
“The APC candidate is here today to tell my people what he wants to do for them, and he has promised to do better. My people have listened to him, and I have blessed him in the name of God Almighty. Everything is left to God Almighty, and I believe He will answer his prayers,” the monarch said.
The campaign stop attracted party leaders, traditional chiefs, supporters and residents, as the APC intensified its statewide mobilisation ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
