How and where did you meet your wife?
We met at a bank in Akure in December 2006. She was still a student then.
Was it your intention to get married to her initially?
Yes. When I met my wife, I was hopeful that the relationship would lead to marriage because she was exactly what I wanted and was also committed to the relationship.
How did she feel when you proposed to her?
My wife was surprised and excited when I proposed to her because she wasn’t expecting it at that particular time.
Were both your parents supportive of your union?
Our parents were happy when we informed them of our intention to get married. They advised us to keep praying about it and remain committed to each other.
How many children do you have?
We are blessed with two children.
What is the most memorable time you have enjoyed with your wife since you got married?
Welcoming our babies and building a happy home are the best moments of our marriage.
Could you offer a piece of advice to young and aspiring couples looking to build a long-term marriage?
My advice to young couples aspiring to have a long-lasting marriage is to build trust through consistency, being reliable, and acting with integrity day after day, while also protecting their marriage.
What do you say about the increasing number of marriage breakups in the country?
The increase in marriage breakups in Nigeria and the UK is due to different factors, such as financial instability, family pressure, and infidelity.
However, I think the main causes are poor communication, trust issues, domestic violence, and abuse. My recommendation to young couples is to learn healthy ways to manage disagreements before entering marriage and to be honest and respectful to each other.
