The detained former governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, on Wednesday, said he may need to reevaluate certain relationships as some friends have remained silent during his legal battle with the Federal Government.
El-Rufai, a former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), made this shocking revelation in a statement posted on his X handle.
Reflecting on the lessons learned from his current predicament, El-Rufai said the hardships of recent months might lead him, quietly and without regret, to reconsider the nature of some relationships and the expectations others have of him.
New Telegraph recalls that the former governor is currently facing trial over allegations of money laundering and the conversion of public property.
He has been in the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) since February 19, after he was released by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

According to El-Rufai, adversity often reveals true relationships, and he expressed concern over the silence of colleagues, friends, and family members he has previously supported.
This is as he emphasised that his decision to reflect should not be seen as reproach or condemnation, but as a means to gain clearer insight into people and life.
“Some have expressed concern over the silence of certain colleagues, friends, and family members I have previously stood by or been closely associated with during these difficult times,” he said.
He affirmed that his support for colleagues, friends, and causes was guided by faith, upbringing, personal values, and conscience.
He recognised that those he supported are now free to make their own choices in changing circumstances.
“I have no regrets about supporting those I believed in at the time, and I harbour no resentment toward anyone who chooses not to do the same now,” he stated.
Regarding any perceived injustice or ingratitude, El-Rufai said he seeks neither revenge nor retribution.
He underscored that ultimate accountability resides with Almighty Allah, and he leaves judgment to Him, emphasising the importance of inner peace and faith.
“In the end, we must live with our choices, and posterity will deliver its verdict. My primary concern is to remain at peace with my conscience and with Almighty Allah,” he said.
