Manchester United icon Wayne Rooney has stated that it is unrealistic to expect the club to win the Premier League title this season.

The former England international anticipates that the Red Devils will finish the season in fourth place.

Rooney asserted that winning their first title in 13 years is not a realistic expectation, despite their impressive performance last season, which resulted in a third-place finish and a return to the UEFA Champions League.

He remarked to Metro: “I would accept a top-four finish. I believe fourth is achievable, but I still think they need to sign two or three more players.

“You’re looking at Arsenal and Man City – Chelsea will be a lot better this season, Tottenham will be better. You’ve got Liverpool in there as well. So it’s going to be tough.

“Arsenal have the capability to pull ahead, but we might witness numerous changes behind them. I predict that Man United will secure fourth place.

“Michael Carrick did an excellent job in leading Man United back into the Champions League. Now the club must maintain that position. I believe it is unrealistic to expect them to win the Premier League this year; I do not think they will.”

The Red Devils are set to face Hull City in the Premier League on August 22.
