Bauchi tasks elevated shari’a court judges on judicial procedures
The Bauchi State Grand Khadi, Justice Umar Liman, has charged seven newly elevated Upper Shari’a Court Judges to uphold integrity, impartiality, discipline and professionalism in the discharge of their judicial responsibilities.
Liman gave the charge on Friday during a two-day induction training organised by the Bauchi State Judicial Service Commission for the newly elevated judges.
The training was held at the Secretariat of the Medical and Health Workers Union, near the Federal Secretariat, Bauchi.
Represented by a Khadi of the State Shari’a Court of Appeal, Ishaq Magaji, the Grand Khadi said the training was aimed at strengthening the judges’ knowledge of judicial procedures, professional ethics and the effective administration of justice.
He urged the judges to strictly adhere to established judicial procedures and deliver justice without fear or favour.
Liman said, “You must uphold the highest standards of integrity, impartiality, discipline and professionalism in the performance of your judicial responsibilities.
“You must ensure strict adherence to established judicial procedures while delivering justice without fear or favour and maintain public confidence in the judiciary.”
He further reminded the judges of their religious responsibilities, urging them to fear God and remain conscious of their accountability for their actions beyond this life.
The Grand Khadi also urged them to embrace the additional responsibilities attached to their new positions with courage, while congratulating them on their elevation.
He explained that the training was designed to familiarise the judges with their expanded responsibilities and ensure that they discharged their duties in accordance with the Constitution, applicable laws, judicial procedures and principles of fairness and justice.
Speaking at the event, the Chief Registrar of the Shari’a Court of Appeal, Bauchi, Tukur Saleh, commended the state Governor, Bala Mohammed, for his support and efforts towards improving the workforce of the judiciary in the state.
Saleh also commended the Executive Secretary of the Bauchi State Judicial Service Commission, Dr Ibrahim Danjuma, for his dedication and commitment to improving the judicial system through reforms and initiatives.
While welcoming the participants and other stakeholders to the training Danjuma thanked individuals and stakeholders who contributed to the success of the training.
He urged the newly elevated judges to protect their integrity, saying doing so would also protect the image of the judiciary.
Danjuma said, “I urge you to respect yourselves by protecting your integrity because by doing so, you are protecting the good image of the judiciary.
“You should also utilise the knowledge acquired during the training sessions in your proceedings and judgments.”
Arewa PUNCH reports that the presentations focused on the procedures of appeal and jurisdiction of the Upper Shari’a Court, code of conduct for Upper Shari’a Court judges, procedures for civil and criminal trials, as well as court management and administration.
