Nigerian striker David Okereke is set to join Italian club Benevento on a free transfer, Completesports.com reports.

Okereke has agreed a two-year contract with the newly promoted Serie B side, with an option for a further year.

The 28-year-old is expected to undergo his medical on Monday (today) before putting pen to paper on the deal.

Okereke opted for a move to Benevento despite attracting interest from clubs in Turkey, Major League Soccer, MLS, Belgium, as well as Italian side Sampdoria.

The forward could make his debut for Benevento in Friday’s Coppa Italia clash against Fiorentina.

The former Nigeria U-23 international spent last season on loan at Turkish Super Lig outfit Gaziantep.

He enjoyed a productive campaign with the Falcons, scoring nine goals in 29 league appearances.

Benevento secured promotion to Serie B last season.
