Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf has declared that the North will give President Bola Tinubu 100 per cent of its vote in the 2027 general election.

Yusuf made the declaration on Saturday at the unveiling of the Arewa for Asiwaju (A4A) national headquarters in Abuja.

He cited what he described as a mutual agreement reached between northern and southern leaders in 1999, under which each region would serve two consecutive presidential terms.

According to Yusuf, the arrangement was honoured during the two terms of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who served for eight years.

He noted that there was no reason to break the agreement, despite it not being constitutionally binding.

“Arewa will support the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 100 per cent,” Yusuf said, adding that political leaders and elders were present at the event.

He said the 1999 agreement provided for the North to have two consecutive terms in office and noted that Buhari had completed those terms in the previous dispensation.

“We don’t have any cause to now violate that promise, even though it is not constitutional. I can say it is a constitution of common sense. Common sense dictates that we respect this mutual agreement,” he said.

On behalf of the northern states, democrats and patriotic northerners, Yusuf assured Tinubu of their full support, saying the president had “done exceedingly well.”
