The governorship candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Rivers State, Chief Dumo Lulu-Briggs, has pledged to revive the dwindling fortunes of the state, lamenting that a state blessed like Rivers deserves to be making giant economic strides.
Lulu-Briggs, who contested the last two general elections under the platform of the Accord Party (AP), with its potential, in a statement, noted that Rivers is currently stagnated and that the people are feeling its impact.
He warned that if the current situation remains, even those who are privileged might feel the impact in the long run, noting that “stagnation is expensive for everyone, while prosperity, however, benefits everyone.”
He said: Because decline never remains contained. No matter how secure you believe you are, the unrest of the unsettled will eventually reach your doorstep. No wall is high enough. No gate is strong enough.
“No private success is sufficient insulation against public failure. It was a simple title, but beneath it sat an enduring truth: privilege does not exempt anyone from pain. Wealth does not eliminate worry. Influence does not silence fear.
“Every calm mind has a burden that keeps it awake. Every accomplished person has a reality that reminds them that personal comfort is not the same thing as collective peace.
“For me, what unsettles me is Rivers State. Not because I cannot live comfortably. Not because I lack the means to build, create, or thrive.”
He added: “What unsettles me is watching a state with the capacity for greatness crawl when it should be soaring. What unsettles me is seeing a giant walk like it has forgotten its strength.
“Those who live under the shadows of hardship already feel the weight of stagnation. They struggle to get by. They bear the immediate consequences of a state not fully realising its promise.
“But those of us who build, create, invest, and produce see something else. We see the immense potential of Rivers State. We see what it can become. And that is precisely what makes the present reality so unsettling.”
The governorship hopeful noted that those who feel the heat of the state’s dwindling fortune are such states because they “lack the resources to survive with dignity.”
Lulu-Briggs added: “The rich cry because they spend their resources unnecessarily to compensate for what a thriving society should already provide.”
